Description
Lubrication and Maintenance of Industrial Machinery explains the key role of effective equipment lubrication practices in a proactive reliability-based maintenance program and the best practices for achieving the cost reduction and the inherent resultant increase in operational reliability.
Incorporating lean methods, the book can be used by everyone in the production process, from supervisors to floor personnel. This book fills a niche by specifically and comprehensively focusing on lubrication as part of the overall maintenance program.

Reviews: Certain to become an industry standard, this volume culled from the Second Edition of the "Handbook of Tribology and Lubrication, Volume 1 "shows how lubrication maintenance fits into an overall proactive maintenance program. Edited by two of the most respected names in the field, and written by leading industry experts, each chapter discusses an important aspect of lubrication, including deterioration, test methods, cleanliness, failure analysis, scheduling, handling and storage, conservation, and used oil recycling. The text also covers centralized lubrication systems and the environmental implications associated with various lubricants.
Excerpt: With few exceptions, lubricants and lubrication methods that reduce energy consumption will also reduce heat and wear debris generation; however, the reverse may not hold true. When heat and wear debris are reduced, less stress is imposed on additives and the base oil. The result will be longer thermal and oxidative stability, and in turn, longer oil drains, lower oil consumption, and the ancillary costs associated with oil changes (as much as 40 times the cost of the lubricant itself!)
